Skyrim VR has been available on Steam since 2016, and retains its huge fanbase. And with the rumours of project Cambria suggesting that a release of a premium version of the Quest is imminent, those same fans are wondering if we will see Skyrim VR on Oculus Quest Pro. We'll examine the latest evidence and the rumours, to let you know what you may be able to expect.
Is Skyrim VR on Oculus Quest Pro?
First, let's talk a little about the fabled Oculus Quest Pro. While it has yet to be announced officially, we do know that there is something in the works. At Facebook Connect 2021, Mark Zuckerberg talked about a premium VR headset, with the codename "Project Cambria". Details remain limited at this stage. But what we do know, is that this will be a high-end product at the top end of the price spectrum.
According to analyst Brad Lynch, the Meta Cambria is something different to the Quest 3. It is rumoured to include MiniLED screens, and is expected to be released at some stage in Q2 of 2022. In other words, at some point between April and June.
While we don't have any further details, we can expect it to be more powerful than the Oculus Quest 2, by quite some margin. Which, in theory, would mean that it will be more than capable of running Skyrim VR. The recommended system requirements cite at least 8GB RAM. The Quest 2 has 6GB, so it's reasonable to expect a Pro device to have significantly more.
So if we can assume the hardware is capable of playing Skyrim VR, we can probably also suggest a couple of ways that you may be able to play it.

How To Play Skyrim VR on Oculus Quest Pro
We don't yet know the full set-up for the rumoured headset, but we are going to assume that it will remain wireless, like the Quest and Quest 2. We'll also assume that Steam won't be available to download and install games directly onto the headset. Of course, we may be pleasantly surprised. But with these assumptions in mind, there are two probable routes to play Skyrim VR on your Quest Pro.
Option 1 - Oculus Link
The simplest way to play Steam games on your Quest Pro seems likely to be by using the Link Cable. This five-metre long cable connects your headset to your PC, allowing you to run the game through the PC, but view it on your headset. There's no reason to think this option won't be available for the Quest Pro. The steps are as follows:
- Connect your link cable to your PC. To do this:
- Open the Oculus app on your PC.
- Turn on your Quest Pro.
- Plug your USB 3 cable into a USB 3.0 port on your PC, then plug the other end into your headset.
- A message is displayed in VR prompting you to Allow access to data. Select Deny. If you mistakenly “Allow” the prompt, you must unplug your USB cable from the Quest and plug it back in.
- When prompted to Enable Oculus Link, select Enable to begin remote rendering using Oculus Link.
- Once you’ve got your link cable up and running, open Steam VR. You can do this on your PC, or via the app on your headset.
- Find Skyrim VR and click on it to launch the game.
You don't have to sue the 'official' Link Cable. Any compatible USB cable will work. But you will also probably have the option of going wireless as well.

Option 2 - Wireless
One of the main features of the Quest headsets is the fact that they are wireless. So it may feel counterintuitive to start messing around with cables. Happily, there are a couple of different ways to connect to your PC with your Quest, without cables. We'd expect the Quest Pro to incorporate these. And if they do, run them even more effectively than the Quest 2 does at present.
The first option is something called Oculus Air Link. Air Link uses a secure Wi-Fi connection to link the headset to the computer. It's currently found in the 'Experimental Features' menu under Settings. But we'd expect it to be more fully incorporated into any new hardware. Here's how you might access it:
- Put on your Quest 2 headset and press the oculus button to open the universal menu.
- Select Settings then select Experimental Features.
- Find and select the button next to Air Link.
- Read the Air Link Requirements, and then select Continue.
- Find and select your PC in the Available PCs list then select Pair.
- Once pairing is complete, you can now click Launch.
The second option, and again, one we'd expect to see on the Quest Pro, is something called Virtual Desktop. This is an app that you can download and install on your Quest headset. And we'd be amazed if it wasn't available for the Quest Pro. To play Skyrim VR, you would use it like this:
- Download and install the Virtual desktop app.
- Open the app, then open Steam VR.
- In the Steam VR, Search for Skyrim VR directly or via going to your Steam Library
- Click on the Skyrim VR game and launch it
As we said above, we wouldn't anticipate any compatibility issues between Skyrim VR and the Quest Pro. But as always, we'll have to wait for an official announcement before we know for certain.
