With the recent release of the S22 out of the way, attention is already turning to the Samsung Galaxy S23.
The S22, while receiving plenty of positive reviews, is very much an iterative upgrade, rather than a game-changer. That, plus the fact that our collective attention spans resemble that of a Cocker Spaniel that's high on cheese, it's hardly surprising that we are already wondering what's going to come next...and yes, that also extends to the iPhone 15, people.
With that in mind, here's everything we know about the expected next flagship handset from the Samsung Galaxy range: the S23. There is plenty to cover, so let's get to it.
Samsung Galaxy S23: Release Date Predictions
At this stage, there is nothing concrete about a release date for the S23. But there is plenty of reason to make an educated guess.
First and foremost, Samsung has a history of releasing its S-line in the early part of each year. Historically, releases were often in April or May. But since 2019, Samsung has released its new flagship handset in January or February. And given that's been four years in a row, there seems little reason to expect it will be different in 2023.

We'd be extremely surprised if they chose to delay the release of the S23, because this is a well-established pattern. And, given that Samsung likes to announce the new handset at one of their biannual Unpacked events, we'd expect them to stick fairly closely to that schedule.
There's also the fact that they like the most recent handset to have time on the market before it gets superseded. So while it's possible that the S23 might be released slightly later than February, it's almost certain that it won't happen before next year.

Samsung Galaxy S23: Rumours and Leaks
It's still very early days in the S23 production cycle. But there are already some whispers. Let's take a closer look at what we've heard to date.
Bigger Battery
According to recent reports, we could see a larger battery in the S23 (codenamed Diamond). According to @TheGalox, the battery will be more dense and potentially come in 4500 mAh, 5000 mAh, and 5500 mAh sizes.
While the likes of the Samsung A53 have massive 5000 mAh batteries, the S22 was surprisingly small for the size and power it requires, coming in at a measly 3,700 mAh.
This change seems well overdue, and possible too. But for those with a keen eye on the rumoured Z-Fold 4, it's looking unlikely they'll use the same technology, at least, according to the tweet.
New Camera
Perhaps most prominently is the possibility of a 200MP camera. The current generation has a 108MP camera, and delivers very decent images.
Samsung has previously confirmed it has produced a 200MP image sensor. While it didn't make it onto the S22, with another year of development, it could well appear on the S23. This has already been suggested by a leaker known as @UniverseIce, who is regarded as having a good track record with their claims.

Time will tell whether or not this proves to be accurate.
Quad Curve Design
There has also been speculation that the S23 will have a quad-curve design. Essentially, a screen that is curved on all four sides, rather than the dual-curved design of the S22. Again, though we will simply have to wait and see on this front.
SoC MediaTek Chip
Recently, there have been some reports that claim the Samsung Galaxy S23 could be the company's first flagship on a Soc MediaTek.
Until now, Samsung has smartphones have been based on Snap Dragon single-chip systems and Exynos family platforms.
However, according to an article by gadgettendency, it looks like it won't be for every phone in the S23 line, but rather for the Asian models.
It's worth watching this space quite carefully, but we'd advise taking it with a pinch of salt at this stage.
Samsung Galaxy S23: Predicted Specs
As well as a potential 200MP camera, we can make some educated guesses about potential specs for the phone. Perhaps most importantly, we'd expect the S23 to come with the best available chipsets from Snapdragon (for US phones) and Exynos (in Europe).
We'd also expect Samsung to follow its usual pattern when it comes to how many models it releases. The S22 came with the S22, the S22 Plus, and the S22 Ultra. We'd expect to see an S22 FE coming later in 2022, and imagine that the S23 will follow a similar pattern. The S22 Ultra comes with a stylus S pen, and we'd expect the S23 Ultra to match this.

Samsung Galaxy S23: Price
In terms of pricing, we'd be astounded if the S23 isn't priced in a similar ballpark to the S22, which comes in at around $799/£769. The S21 was also launched at this price. The S22 Plus came in at $999/£949, while the S22 Ultra was a meaty $1199/£1149. We can't imagine that phones are going to become cheaper in the next twelve months. So expect it to cost at least this much, and potentially a little bit more.
The price may also be influenced by what competitors offer in the coming months, or any new features and innovations that Samsung choose to include in the S23.

The S22 remains a top handset. But there are no major changes that make this a must-have handset, especially if you already have an S21, for example. We're hoping the S23 will make another leap forward rather than little steps. As ever, we'll update you when we hear more.
