Arkane originally had plans to make a PlayStation 5 version of its vampire RPG Redfall but they were scrapped when Microsoft acquired them. With Microsoft’s recent court statements stating it isn’t taking anything away from PlayStation gamers, this could be evidence to the contrary.
During an interview with IGN France, Arkane Director Harvey Smith confirmed that major changes were made after Microsoft’s purchase. Smith claims that making the game exclusive will make it better in the long run but the news hasn’t been received well by Sony fans.
"We were acquired by Microsoft and it was a change with capital C,” says a translated excerpt from Smith (via Shinobi602). “They came in and they said 'No PS5, we're focusing on Xbox, PC and the Game Pass'.”
Sony didn’t make a ruckus when Bethesda was purchased, but the company did have prior exclusive agreements for numerous games. Arkane’s Deathloop and Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire Tokyo were both timed exclusives on PS5.
More importantly, there is a good chance that Sony can use this in its ongoing attempts to block Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision. With PlayStation worried that Call of Duty will become an Xbox exclusive, this title could be used to prove Microsoft’s willingness to take games away from PlayStation, even if that’s just business.
To be fair, things haven’t been too great for Arkane’s Xbox Series exclusive. Due to the game wanting to mix single-player with multiplayer, it’s online-only, something Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League revealed to negative news. Arkane has since said they would try to resolve this issue, which is better than nothing.
