Ratchet And Clank Rift Apart PS4 vs PS5: Will the new Ratchet And Clank game reach both generations of PlayStation? Which version should you get?

The new Ratchet & Clank title, one of the most anticipated PS5 titles announced so far, is set to launch on the next-gen console in 2021, after Insomniac's other PlayStation exclusive, Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Sure, the SSD is nice and all, and yeah, the DualSense is cool, but this is everyone's favourite Lombax back in action again.

The thing is though, you might be wondering if, like Miles Morales, you'll be able to play this exciting new game on your PS4, or will you have to upgrade to be able to play it.

Well, we're here to help you out.

What is Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart?

It's the latest in the long-running Ratchet & Clank series, which got something of a reboot in 2016 when a revised version of the first game was released with massively improved graphics.

In this upcoming title, though, you'll be fighting through a multiverse of sorts that will have you falling through holes in your universe and ending up in other places, seemingly at random.

On top of that, we got to see a new ability that has you pulling yourself towards a rift to teleport. It's all very impressive, and it's clear that the tech involved is beyond what current consoles can do.

That leads us to the crux of the matter.

Will Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart come to PS4?

While Ratchet & Clank's PS4 version was up in the air for a long time, we now have more concrete confirmation that Rift Apart will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive title.

Replying to a tweet from a fan wondering about a PS4 version, Insomniac said, "It's a PS5 exclusive". Plain and simple.

Given that the PS5's SSD seems so integral to Rift Apart's teleporting mechanics, running the game on a PS4 would be infuriating at best, and perhaps even unplayable in certain sections.

That means you'll have to pony up for the PS5 if you want to play it. That's not a bad thing, though, as the next generation of consoles is lining up to be mightily impressive indeed.
