Rainbow Six Siege is still going strong, thanks to a loyal online community, fun gameplay mechanics, and, of course, wacky crossovers. In what has to be the weirdest crossover yet, Ubisoft’s multiplayer shooter has announced a collaboration with Square Enix’s NieR series.
NieR has taken part in numerous crossovers, particularly NieR Automata, but it’s still surprising to see a uniquely Japanese property in something so Western. Despite how odd this is, fans are likely happy that they have more reasons to keep playing this shooter, even after Rainbow Six Extraction’s shoddy release.
Since Rainbow Six Siege is a live-service game, more weird crossovers will likely come over time. It will be interesting to see which franchise is willing to team up with this popular shooter and how fun the cosmetics will be.
The Rainbow Six Siege collaboration is focused on NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, giving Maverick a costume from the game’s protagonist. In addition to his signature grey hair, Maverick will also get guns that are similar to NieR’s universe, amongst other cosmetics.
It’s not just Replicant getting love from this crossover, as the trailer’s end also shows the boots of NieR Automata protagonist 2B. There’s little doubt in anyone’s mind that 2B is the most popular character in the NieR franchise and it’s good seeing her represented here.
While NieR is the weirdest crossover that Rainbow Six Siege has taken part in, the multiplayer has had other odd collaborations. SEGA franchise Yakuza had a crossover with the shooter, letting players dress as their favorite characters from the quirky series. Rick and Morty also did a crossover, though that’s less surprising since we’ve seen the Adult Swim series take part in loads of them.
