In a move that can only be described as perfect, Bandai Namco is making the perfect virtual pet. Despite the Tamagotchi craze being, oh, around 1998 – 2001, the brand has now created their cutest one yet. Introducing, the R2-D2 Tamagotchi!
R2-D2 Tamagotchi is the cutest one yet
Revealed on the official Star Wars website, the R2-D2 Tamagotchi finally realises the dream that should've been realised when the prequels released. Inside the iconic egg-shaped plastic shell is an adorable pixel-art droid that you'll definitely kill.
The device is available in two different shells. The first, cutest shell looks entirely like you'd expect. It's an R2-D2 design in that beautiful white and blue design. The second option is a translucent blue with white accents.
Players will be able to help Artoo learn 19 different skills while also looking after the droid. You'll have to make sure he's cleaned, charged and happy all while playing seven unlockable mini games. Make sure you look after him though! If you don't, Jawas will steal the droid and sell him for scraps.

The marketing gubbins
In the announcement, Bandai manager Takayoshi Oyama explained that it was a long overdue collaboration. The manager explained:
“Star Wars has proven to be a timeless franchise and one that fans are eager to continue exploring, which makes it an absolute thrill to be able to incorporate it into the Tamagotchi experience. The R2-D2 Tamagotchi is an epic collaboration to be a part of and we can’t wait to see how fans of the franchise react to this out-of-this-world device!”
The pocket-sized droid will release on November 11th. It'll be available to pre-order on Amazon at 9.p.m Pacific Time.
