Quark will return to Star Trek, but things need to change first

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine introduced the world to one of the best Trek characters of all time: Quark. As the first Ferengi main character, Quark’s schemes were immense fun. Who else could infect an entire space station with a single replicator?

Quark’s legacy has been kept alive in shows like Star Trek: Lower Decks where Quarks has become a successful chain bar. However, the character has yet to return in live action. Is that set to change?

More Quark!

Reported by TrekNews, Quark actor Armin Shimerman recently discussed the conditions of his return to Star Trek. With so many beloved characters, including Kate Mulgrew’s Captain Janeway, coming back to the series, it makes sense that Paramount would want to have more Quark.

Speaking at a recent at the Fanboy Expo in Knoxville, Shimerman claimed he would return to Star Trek. However, he would not be willing to come back in the same capacity as he did on Deep Space Nine.

Shimmerman explained that the toll of seven seasons would be far too high. Furthermore, spending every day getting the Quark prosthetics out on his face would be too much. With this in mind, he would much rather be a guest star.

“The answer is yes. I would happily do it,” he said. “I would not do a series regular again. I would not undergo that makeup for another seven years. I can’t live that long. But for a guest star or to do what they’re going to do on Picard with some of the characters coming back… Yeah, I would do that. But! They’d have to pay me like they paid Michael Dorn.”

The perfect return for Quark

Of course, Quark‘s live-action return will be a momentous occasion for Trekkies everywhere. However, this isn’t the only way that the beloved Ferengi could return to Star Trek.

As mentioned previously, in Star Trek: Lower Decks, Quark is known for his massively successful chain restaurants. This could make it easy for the character to appear in an episode or two!

Personally, it would be fantastic for the character to appear in animated form. Not okay would it mean that Shimerman wouldn’t have to spend hours in makeup, but he’s already known as a fantastic voice actor.
