What Is Remote Play?

Remote Play is a feature that allows you to stream and play your PS5 games on any compatible device that’s either connected to your broadband network, or via mobile data. You can also switch between games, view your console Home Screen, and browse the PS5 menu.

In practical terms, this means you can start playing a game on your PS5. Then, plucking a random example that is in no way related to personal experience, your missus might come in and say it’s time for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills to come on. And you know what that means.

So you can pause your game, go to another room/garage, open Remote Play on your PS4 (or other compatible devices) and pick up exactly where you left off. You get to continue gaming, your missus discovers the fate of Denise Richards, and domestic harmony is ensured. All thanks to Remote Play.

The great thing is, PS5 Remote Play isn’t only available on PS4. You can also use compatible Android devices, iPhone and iPad running iOS 13 or later, or Windows PC and Mac (with macOS Catalina or later). You won’t get the exact PS5 experience in terms of frame rates and resolution. But you can continue your gaming session, even if Denise Richards has forced you off your PS5. And that can’t be a bad thing.
