With the PS5 only a few weeks away, people are looking into potential options for customisation.
While some people really like the retrofuturistic look of the PS5, it's not for everyone.
So, those people were pretty happy to find out that there was a site doing custom faceplates for the PS5, which meant they could really leave their mark on the new Sony console.
Well, it turns out that that's no longer the case.
What's in a name?
As reported on by VGC, a site that was called PlateStation5.com (what an excellent name) had to change their name to CustomizeMyPlates.com after Sony complained about the name.
That's not all that's happened to the site though.
In an email to VGC CustomizeMyPlates explained that before the site launched they had done a lot of research and came to the conclusion that there should be no issue with the site. This was due to a lack of pending patents on Sony's end of things.
However, "after only a day of our website being live, Sonyās lawyers asked us to change our name (at the time PlateStation5), due to trademark infringements. We thought this switch would be enough to keep everyone happy, and honestly were hoping so since we were already underway with our product development."

Sony says no to custom faceplates
The site goes on to say that "then Sonyās lawyers told us it was their opinion, Sonyās intellectual property extended to the faceplates, and that if we continued to sell and distribute them in any country, we would end up in court."
As a result of this, the site has ended up cancelling and refunding faceplate orders all over the world.
This will come as a big blow to people hoping for a more colourful or stylish PS5 on in their homes, but Sony can certainly flex when they need to.
The site has said they'll try and be wiser going forwards, so hopefully they'll find a way to help people make the most of their new PS5.
