What is PS5 2FA?

Sometimes also known as 2-step verification, 2FA is an additional layer of security to protect your account from being accessed by others. When you attempt to sign-in to PlayStation Network, you'll be asked to confirm your account credentials, and then enter a verification code that is sent to either your mobile number or your authenticator app. The code is only valid for 10 minutes after you try to sign-in. After this, you'll need to request a new code.

Usually, you would use this when signing in for the first time after activiating 2FA on your PS5, or if you've manually signed out and are trying to sign back in. It can also happen when you've had to reset your account password.

There are a few reasons why you may choose to enable 2FA on PS5. But it essentially boils down to keeping your account as secure as possible. 2FA means that only you will be able to access your account, and makes it harder for hackers, who would also need your mobile phone as well as your account credentials. It's a simple and painless extra step for logging in, and gives you considerable extra protection. It's generally a good idea to enable 2FA on any account that offers this as an option.
