Project Mugen has captured the interest of many, combining anime visuals with the traversal prowess of Marvel’s Spider-Man. In fact, some fans think that the grappling hook physics are a little too similar to Insomniac’s PS5 exclusive superhero title.

Twitter user @FleuRashDesign pointed out how the animations look like they were directly copied from Marvel’s open-world title. While we doubt it was directly copied, the fact that these animations look so similar does add some credence to this post.

Based on the Project Mugen gameplay we’ve seen, the swinging and leaping animations look just like they came from Spider-Man. Even the wallrunning looks just like it came from the Insomniac-developed open-world title.

Admittedly, the user did say that they were excited to try this game out, due to the combination of fun mechanics. Even if this open-world anime RPG looks ridiculously similar to Spider-Man, the differences in combat and story do differentiate it. Plus, there are other forms of transport, which you don’t see in the Marvel title.

Unsurprisingly, Project Mugen isn’t the first time a Chinese-developed RPG was accused of being a rip-off. Most gamers will remember how miHoYo’s Genshin Impact got labeled as a Breath of the Wild clone. Years later and it’s currently one of the most popular free-to-play RPGs available right now.

Hilariously, Genshin Impact has now spawned its own fair share of “clones.” Tower of Fantasy is the most blatant one, using anime-like visuals and taking place in an open-world. Still, that title has its own fair share of fans and the same thing might happen once Project Mugen is released.

Currently, there is no release date for Project Mugen, though we wouldn’t be surprised if it comes out next year or later this year. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which comes out on PS5 on October 20.
