Pokémon Detective Pikachu 2 has finally found a director after years of silence. While the movie had supposedly been in all this time, fans have suffered from four years of no updates regarding the movie.

Deadline has confirmed that Jonathan Krisel will direct the sequel to this fairly popular Pokémon movie. The website has also confirmed that Chris Galletta will be writing the movie. It will be interesting to see how they make a sequel, given the film’s fairly decisive ending that screams “no more follow-ups.”

Ryan Reynolds hasn’t been confirmed for Pokémon Detective Pikachu 2 yet, though sources claim that he could be involved somehow. Considering how Reynolds’ character stopped being a Piakchu at the end of the original movie, he could appear in a supporting role.

At the end of the day, fans are just hoping for more fantastic CGI to bring their favourite Pokémon to life. The first Detective Pikachu movie was high art in any way, shape, or form. However, it was easy enough to follow and had Pokémon doing their thing, which was enough for fans.

We’re also interested in knowing if the eventual release of Pokémon Detective Pikachu 2 will lead to the re-release of Detective Pikachu on Switch. For those unaware, The Pokémon Company announced in 2019 that Detective Pikachu would come to Switch and “finish the story.” More than three years later and we still haven’t heard anything.

Even if we don’t hear anything about the movie or the Switch version of Detective Pikachu, Pokémon is doing fine. Scarlet and Violet just got a major DLC announcement, while the games themselves continue to sell really well. Netflix also announced a new stop-motion animated series called Pokémon Concierge, which has some potential.

Don’t expect a release date for Pokémon Detective Pikachu until the studio can lock down a cast and a good schedule.
