Blizzard’s long-anticipated Overwatch 2 continues to disappoint fans, this time with its recent Lunar New Year event. The free-to-play hero shooter has committed the cardinal sin of not offering anything new, despite being a live-service game, concerning fans who were already worried for the game’s future.

While this can be seen as fans overreacting, it’s never a good look to have one of your early events offer barebones content. (Just look at Halo Infinite.) Add all of the negativity that has followed the sequel thus far and it’s easy to see why fans are concerned about the game’s longevity.

Hopefully, the next major Overwatch 2 event can offer a ton of new content so players can put their worries at ease. The game isn’t even a year old yet and it’s amusing to see fans act this way about a shooter they constantly criticize.

In the Overwatch 2 subreddit, a user brought up how pitiful the Lunar New Year event has been. Rather than give fans an endless amount of costumes to grind/pay for, the event reused skins that players had already won. As the first major event of 2023, the recycling of old skins is worrying to say the least.

Now that the Lunar New Year event has disappointed, fans are worried about future events. This event only offered one new costume and it’s a recolored costume that already exists, which is worrisome. It seems that many fans still want the game to succeed and become fun, hence all of the worry.

“Kinda scared for the anniversary event ngl,” said MadameConnard.

“I used to really look forward to the lunar new year skins, maybe even more than the halloween. That the only new skin this year is a low-quality epic Mei which can be purchased for $10 is... horrible. And yay, there are a couple simple things like a weapon charm, title, and spray as event rewards? I'm actually kind of dumbfounded they're trying to call this an "event"... and that they think people will keep playing if they do this type of thing,” said R888D888.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Hopefully, Activision-Blizzard get its act together and give fans more content to consume.
