Looking to join friends and add friends cross-platform between Xbox and PS4, or PC? You're not alone.
Outriders released at the start of April and has proven to be extremely popular since launch, despite some of the well-publicised issues it has had.
Many of Outriders' initial issues came through cross-platform play. Inventory wipes and crashes were common problems for friends playing together on PS4 and Xbox. These issues seem to have been (mainly) fixed by People Can Fly, and cross-platform play is now safe.
But what exactly does cross-platform mean, how does it work, and how can I use it? We have everything you need to know right here. So read on, to get all the details.

What is cross-platform?
As the name indicates, cross-platform is the ability to play the game with friends, even when they are playing on a different console. So you might be playing Outriders on a PC, while your friend uses their Xbox as an example. There are already a number of popular games that offer cross-platform support, and Outriders is just one of the latest to be that list.
At launch, Outriders was plagued by connectivity issues, to the point where they actually had to disable cross-platform while they prepared a fix. The good news is that at the time of writing, a patch has been implemented to fix the issue with cross-play. This means that you should now be able to play across all platforms with your buddies.
So if this is something you want to start doing, what do you need to know? Read on, for answers are just around the corner.

How to use cross-play in Outriders
Using crossplay is surprisingly straightforward, you just need to make sure you have switched it on.
- To do this, go to Options in the lobby menu
- Select Gameplay
- Select Enable crossplay
Once you have activated crossplay, you are ready to go! You just need to add some friends that can explore Enoch with you. This process is a little more involved, because it uses a code system to allow you to join a game.
- First, select Play with friends in the lobby menu
- You'll then either have the option of creating your own game, or joining one set up by your friend.
- To create the game, select Generate your game code.
- You will then be provided with an 8 digit code, to give to your friends so they can join the game.
- If you are joining someone else's game, select Join a game using code, enter the 8 digit code your friend has given you, and voila!
However, for some reason, Outriders' in-game voice chat doesn't seem to work properly/is non-existent, meaning that you'll need to use a third-party application like Discord, or just an old-school phone call, to communicate with your friends.

How to add friends on Outriders
Generating a game code for every time your friend wants to play Outriders can get pretty frustrating, especially when you have to do this every time one of you crashes out of the game.
Luckily, you can now add friends by sending them a friend request via the Outriders menu after you initially team up. This will allow you to quickly jump into their lobby whenever online, without the need of a code.
Again, this feature didn't seem to work properly at launch, but has now been fixed.
