Outriders has been the focus of a lot of attention since it launched on April Fools Day. As well as being hugely popular, the game has unfortunately suffered from a number of problems, included huge crashes. People have struggled to sign in, or they've been booted off the server mid-game, as well as stuttering and FPS issues.

Another issue that has reared its head in these early stages is the game crashing repeatedly. It has reached a point where one user has reported amassing 23GB of crash data on their PC. The game itself is 42 GB, so to have that vast amount of data is simply staggering.

So is there anything you can do to try to prevent these crashes from happening in the first place? We'll be taking a look at some potential solutions on three of the main platforms for Outriders, to hopefully reduce these issues from spoiling your gaming experience, while People Can Fly works on stabilising the game.

What seems to be the problem with Outriders?

Unfortunately, one of the consequences of a massively popular online game, is that bugs tend to be really common at launch. Outriders is no exception to this, although the developer has been working hard to try to fix everything as quickly as possible.

The crashing error is, sadly, a common one, and doesn't appear to be restricted to one specific platform. This particular problem has been encountered on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. While on PlayStation you might receive an error message informing you of the crash, the Xbox version just boots you right out of the game.

The latest patch from PCF seems to have added some stability to the game, but crashers are still a common occurrence, especially on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or budget PCs. The good news is that there are some suggested workarounds, to try to reduce the frequency with which this happens.

So try the following, and hopefully Outriders crashing will be a thing of the past.

How to fix Outriders crashing on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

On Xbox Series X|S, or Xbox One, the most important thing is to make sure your game is up-to-date. PCF is continuously working on fixing the issues in Outriders, with the latest update released in late May allegedly including fixes for various crashes.

To check this and fix the crashes, you should do the following:

  • Navigate to My games and apps.
  • Scroll to Manage, then select Updates.
  • Ensure that cross-play is disabled in the in-game options menu.

How to fix Outriders crashing on PS4 and PS5

On PlayStation, make sure you have installed the latest patches for the game:

  • Press the Options button with the game highlighted.
  • Then choose Check for update from the menu.
  • Ensure that cross-play is disabled in the in-game options menu

Square Enix and People Can Fly have been working hard to provide fixes for these issues, so making sure that you keep installing the latest updates, should help minimise the issues you have with Outriders. However, as we've seen with patches in the past, such as the infamous inventory wipe incident, these updates are rarely the catch-all patch players want, meaning it may take a while for every crash to disappear.
