Nvidia has announced it will increase the production and supply for the Geforce RTX 3060 series graphics card from this July. This news arrives in a year of shortages due to the ongoing COVID pandemic and the semiconductor shortage.
Graphics cards have been in high-demand over the past year due to the rise in cryptocurrency mining. Miners have been buying graphics cards in order to mine for currency, leaving many gamers to go without.
The latest series of Nvidia cards, the Geforce RTX series has been notoriously difficult to get hold of since it started launching last year.
Scalpers notoriously used bots to buy any cards that went on sale online, selling them onto crypto miners at a marked up price.
Internet Cafes
Originally reported by ITHome, Nidia will ramp up the production of the card from the end of this month. The company will reportedly focus on supplying internet cafes with the card first.
The original RTX 3060 card came with a hash rate limiter, which restricted the card's ability to mine bitcoin. Hackers have bypassed the restrictions in a number of ways since its release, prompting Nvidia to redesign the card with a new GPU chip.
Nvidia’s RTX 3060 is an updated version of the company’s most popular card, the GTX 1060. The GTX 1060 is still one of the most commonly used cards on Steam as a result of its price vs performance ratio.
Pricing decrease
While we certainly aren’t out of the woods just yet, it would appear that the demand for graphics cards is starting to decrease. Prices in recent months have dropped, with some cards dropping to around 190% of their listing price.
This drop has come at the result of Nvidia purposely limiting the has rates of graphics cards to make them less attractive to miners.
