No More Heroes devs Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture are up to their usual shenanigans, as they "mistakenly" showed a new game during their showcase which they later tried to hide.
We caught a brief glimpse of a few screens while Suda51 was sitting down playing, but we can only hazard a few guesses as to what this yet unannounced game is all about.
As part of Summer Game Fest 2023, Grasshopper Manufacture broadcasted a showcase video which, at the end, showed their community manager walking in on Goichi “Suda51” Suda as he was busy playing their unannounced project.
What happened next? Well, we saw Suda quickly pausing the game and getting up, as he tries to block as much as possible the viewer from seeing the screen. The character was already blurred, so we couldn’t really see much, but we could definitely make out a radar/map and what looks like a health bar on the lower part.
When Suda paused the screen, we could also see a huge interface that we could take a look at. On the pause screen there are separate sections for Health, Blood and Emerald Flowsion. There are also two weapons: one called Spazer and the other Brynhildr.
There are a couple more details we could make out, such as different slots for items and a photo mode which can be accessed with X.
Of course we know that this game is not the Shadows of the Damned remaster, as that was already announced separately as part of the showcase. We are definitely betting that this is an all new IP for Suda51 and Grasshopper, which is already looking quite weird and deranged.
Grasshopper's last published game was 2021's No More Heroes III, and by the few things we saw here, this doesn't really look like it would fit the aesthetic of a fourth chapter in the series. But, it is Suda51 we are talking about, so all bets are off. Either way, we are already waiting with baited breath to find out more about this "hidden" project.
