After months of speculation, Nintendo has finally revealed their Nintendo Switch Pro. However, it's not called that, it’s called the Nintendo Switch OLED.

Nintendo Switch OLED release date

While many expected the Nintendo Switch Pro to release earlier in the year, Nintendo is going for a traditional autumnal release. Instead of a cheeky March release like the original, the newly announced Nintendo Switch Pro will release similarly to the Lite.

As a holiday release, the new Nintendo Switch will release on October 8th, 2021. Perhaps this later release date is due to ongoing production delays. With the coronavirus pandemic still raging amid chip shortages, it’s no stretch to see this as a delayed release. However, Nintendo could simply be targeting a holiday release schedule.

How much will it cost?

The new Switch will cost just slightly more than the base Nintendo Switch. When the original device launched, Nintendo asked customers to pay just $299 for the console. The new console will launch at a slightly higher price.

Instead of $299, the new OLED model will launch at just $350.That's not too surprising; the new model doesn't offer much in terms of improvements.

Nintendo Switch OLED specs

Nintendo's announcement of the new Nintendo Switch OLED didn't touch too much on specs, likely because there's not much to touch on. While rumours suggested that the device would see a substantial boost in power, that's not the case.

Most of the device’s features revolve around the new screen. There are slightly smaller bezels on the device’s OLED screen, but there's not too many improvements over that. There is a new adjustable stand, a physical LAN port on the Dock and enhanced audio. However, the brighter, more color accurate screen is the most important upgrade.

The new Nintendo Switch will release on October 8th, 2021 for $350.
