The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) claims that Call of Duty games won’t be up to par when they come to Switch. According to the association, they’ve “seen no evidence” of the shooter running on Switch, which is one of the reasons they have barred Microsoft from buying Activision Blizzard.

Part of the CMA’s final report (via GamesRadar) points out how the current PlayStation and Xbox consoles are of similar power. Furthermore, they point out how the Switch is technically inferior to both systems and feel that Activision Blizzard won’t get Call of Duty to run on Nintendo’s hybrid console.

"Nintendo does not currently offer CoD, and we have seen no evidence to suggest that its consoles would be technically capable of running a version of CoD that is similar to those in Xbox and PlayStation in terms of quality of gameplay and content," the CMA concludes.

While both Microsoft and Activision Blizzard are hoping to get this relationship off the ground, the acquisition has been halted for now. This is despite the company bending over backwards to make sure that this purchase goes through, promising that PlayStation and Nintendo would keep getting games.

In order to sweeten the deal, Activision Blizzard and Microsoft vowed to bring Call of Duty to Switch for the next 10 years. Right away, fans were wondering how they would get these powerful and hefty games to run on the underpowered Switch. Furthermore, some felt that these games wouldn’t be a good fit for the system and it seems the CMA had similar feelings.

Although court proceedings haven’t made Microsoft look good, with the company undermining their value and game exclusives, eyebrows towards PlayStation were raised too. These cases have made people in power question Sony’s stranglehold of Japan’s gaming scene, which it shares with Nintendo. Microsoft famously bombed multiple times in the country with the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
