The Nintendo Switch has been a huge success since its release, with many figuring it will soon be the highest-selling game console ever. It seems that Nintendo is close to achieving this goal, as the handheld/console hybrid is now the third best-selling game system in the US.
Mat Piscatella, an industry analyst, was able to confirm that the Switch has surpassed the lifetime sales of Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Piscatella then declared the Switch as the third best-selling video game system in the US, with the 360 now in a respectable fourth place.
Since we’re near the end of the Nintendo Switch’s life cycle, seeing it continue to sell a ton of copies shows just how popular this system is. Whether it’s the handheld factor, semi-affordable price, or high-quality Nintendo games, it’s nice to see an underpowered system excel like this.
We think it’s fair to say that the Switch has more than made up for the Nintendo Wii U, which is the company’s lowest-selling console. The company rebounding this much is a bit surprising but when you consider all of the quality titles that come with the Switch, it makes sense.
Although some fans will point out various reasons for the success of the Nintendo Switch, like the 2020 pandemic, what matters is this system sold a ton. It goes to show just how impressive the system is, as the handheld/console hybrid was a brand-new feeling at the time and has yet to be properly replicated.
Now, that’s not to say that the Switch didn’t have any competition, as the handheld now has several rivals. Valve released the Steam Deck after the Switch’s success and even pointed out that their Steam Deck OLED was directly inspired by the Switch OLED. Rumours even say that Valve will take part in another Nintendo move by releasing different colored Steam Decks.
