Reports are heating up claiming the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming out in early 2024. Many are seeing 2023 as the final year of the current Nintendo Switch, due to the lack of heavy hitters coming to the console.
Both IGN and VGC were able to confirm that Nintendo wouldn’t be making an appearance in E3 due to a lack of major first-party games. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom aside, it doesn’t seem like Nintendo has any other major releases.
Fans and insiders are using the lack of games as a sign that a new Switch is coming. It’s a common practice that we’ve seen from Sony and Microsoft when their next-gen systems officially became current-gen. While we doubt Switch production will completely stop, we’re sure cross-gen titles will become a possibility when/if the Switch 2 makes its debut.
In regards to games like Metroid Prime 4 and Pikmin 4, the feeling is that these two games are going to be cross-gen titles. Granted, Nintendo is the only source that can confirm if this is true but the possibility of this happening is looking more like an inevitability.
Nintendo finishing out its console lifespans with cross-gen titles is a common practice for the company. When they moved on from the Gamecube to the Wii, both systems received The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Even recently, Nintendo released Breath of the Wild as a swansong for the Wii U and an opening salvo for the Switch.
The Switch is also in need of an upgrade in specs. While the console/handheld hybrid has been a hit seller, hardcore fans can’t help but look at the major first-party games that run poorly. Fans are still having nightmares over Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, even if both games are very playable.

Hopefully, we get news on the Switch 2 when the time is right. We also wouldn’t mind current-gen updates for games that could have run better (*cough* Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity *cough*).
