According to a report from a Brazillian journalist, Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in early 2025. This news has been corroborated by several other media outlets as well.
The journalist claims that he has received this information from five different sources. This news has also been independently corroborated by the media outlets Bloomberg, Eurogamer, and VGC.
VGC, in particular, reported how some developers are currently working on games for the Nintendo Switch 2 slated for an early 2025 release. According to them "Two development sources VGC spoke to on Friday indicated that they were working on Switch 2 games planned for release early next year".
Eurogamer added, "The console's launch moving into early next year - but still within the coming financial year - is designed to ensure Switch 2's launch line-up features as many titles as possible, Eurogamer understands."
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that “Nintendo Co. is advising game publishers that its next-generation console will be delayed until the early months of 2025, according to people with knowledge of the matter,”.
This also perfectly lines up with our speculation for the late 2024 release of the Nintendo Switch 2. Our speculation was based on the large order of custom Nvidia chips for Nintendo slated for late 2024. It looks like that date has been pushed a bit further, and we can expect it in the first quarter of 2025.
It's unfortunate that we still have to wait a full year for Nintendo's latest console. It's also likely that we won't see many major developments for the current Nintendo Switch as Nintendo focuses its resources on the Nintendo Switch 2. For the current year, the game lineup consists of a Princess Peach title in March and ports of Luigi's Mansion 2 and Paper Mario: A Thousand Year Door.
Luckily, we do know that developers have received Nintendo Switch 2 development kits, and many studios are working on games for the Nintendo Switch 2. This likely means a very stacked lineup of games once the Switch 2 is finally released.
We also have confirmation for some impressive new features in the Nintendo Switch 2, such as DLSS for the Switch 2.
