With CES 2024 set to bring plenty of incredible hardware reveals, MSI is teasing a potential Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally rival that could be revealed during the event.
Announced on MSI's various social feeds, the short nine-second clip shares some quick-changing shots of various things. However, the most unmistakable one is a shot of two staggered RGB rings spread apart that definitely look like they're separated by a screen. The rest of the teaser includes shots of the casing, with MSI stating "A whole new breed of MSI dragon is coming". The official reveal will come during CES.
If MSI is introducing a handheld PC, it would be the fourth major brand to release a product like this, with the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo's Legion Go all fighting for a slice of market share. However, with the Steam Deck having a head start and introducing an OLED model late last year, MSI may have a difficult fight.
It's likely that MSI's handheld PC will feature the Windows operating system instead of Linux like Steam Deck's SteamOS. This would put it in direct competition with ASUS and Lenovo due to the fact both products use Windows too.
No specs or any price details have been announced yet, with those likely coming at CES too. MSI already has a packed CES ready with the announcement of some MSI x Monster Hunter products set to launch soon, so we're excited to see the unveiling of its next big thing.
Personally, we're excited to see what MSI has been cooking up, considering competition is almost always a great thing. While Steam Deck is likely in the lead with "multiple millions" of the device sold, more companies fighting for a slice of market share will keep the other rivals attempting to the best of the best, which is good for consumers.
