Most Zack Snyder’s Justice League viewers turned the movie off right before the best part

Release the Snyder Cut was a monumental campaign for fans of the DCEU. However, as Zack Snyder’s Justice League has finally been released, how successful has the movie been?

That's been a question on a lot of fans minds. While there aren't concrete numbers as to how successful the movie is worldwide, we do know some information. We also know that the vast majority of people didn't sit through the whole movie.

People didn't watch all of Zack Snyder’s Justice League

At a whopping four hours in length, many wouldn't have time to watch all of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. (I did, twice, but that's neither here nor there.) As it turns out, the vast majority of people couldn't sit through all four hours.

Revealed by ScreenRant and TV analytics company Samba, only 39% of Snyder Cut viewers watched the whole movie in one sitting. The report reveals that, on average, viewers turned off at the 197-minute mark. This is the moment when Superman joins the rest of the League to decapitate Steppenwolf.

In the UK, viewers lasted almost the entire movie. On average, UK watchers turned off the movie 225 minutes in. That's the Knightmare scene where Batman and Co. meet up with Jared Leto's Joker. In fairness, the movie is technically over at that point. This means those viewers missed Darkseid's appearance, Black Suit Superman and the incredible Flash sequence – one of the best scenes in any superhero film.

A lot of people did at least attempt to watch the Snyder Cut. While Samba can only track those who turn on a movie, even if to resume, millions of people have seen the film. On opening weekend, 1.8 million HBO Max viewers watched Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Those numbers are said to be doubled now. Of course, this doesn't include international figures.

Will this be used against the SnyderVerse?

As streaming becomes the norm for movies, success isn't just based on how many people turned a film on. With the movie included in a subscription service, viewer retention figures are key to a movie’s success.

With that said, it's likely that the movie’s poor retention isn't the only thing holding back a return to the SnyderVerse. Warner Bros is very keen to leave that era of the DCEU behind. In fact, the studio allegedly has a gagging order on Zack Snyder’s Justice League. This means that the company will not release official figures or support to keep fans guessing.
