Breakdown
- Mortal Kombat 1 received an update that improved its Steam Deck performance
- The game now runs at a consistent 40fps
- More single-player content was also added as part of the game's Invasions
Mortal Kombat 1 is a Steam Deck Verified fighting game but it doesn’t always perform like one, though that seems to have changed. A new update was released and the devs made sure to comment on the game’s Steam Deck performance, saying it has been updated for the better.
On the game’s Steam update, it was mentioned that improvements were made to all hardware configurations, including Valve’s massive handheld. The folks at Steam Deck HQ decided to try out this update and confirmed that NetherRealms’ fighter does play a lot better in this handheld now.
After the update, Mortal Kombat 1 can now play at a consistent 40fps, which should give players a satisfying experience using Valve’s handheld. While most gamers yearn for that 60fps, this is a game made for current-gen consoles, so this is the best we could hope for. Plus, most fans set their AAA games to 40fps anyway, to save battery and still get smooth performances.
The performance for this game could be a bit better, but when compared to the poor Nintendo Switch port this is totally fine. At the least, the character models still look very good and the combat feels responsive, so this is easily the best way to experience this game in handheld form.
It’s not just improved performance coming to Mortal Kombat 1, as a new Season of Invasions has also launched as part of this update. While their limited availability isn’t ideal, this is still a solid way to give fans single-player content and that can’t be understated.
When NetherRealms released MK1, it came out to a fairly positive reaction and fans seem to dig the game. Although it does have issues with multiplayer and greedy microtransactions, a lot of fans are still excited for this fighter and whatever its future is.
Mortal Kombat 1 is now available on PS5, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Now that this Steam Deck update is available, fans will have a superior handheld experience to play with.
