NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 has become a target of the fighting game community due to its janky animations seen in gameplay. Oddly enough, it doesn’t seem that different from MK X or MK 11 but some fans are now up in arms over how the fighting looks.

All of this commotion was caused by a Twitter video from @SkeezerSays, showing some of Johnny Cage’s crazy combos in the game. However, the quote tweets went crazy, claiming that this entry that looks unpolished or unfinished. In reality, the modern games have always looked like this and fans seem to be spoiled by Street Fighter 6.

“I just wanna say that I love MK animations,” ironically says @RelusionH. “Every clip of this game you'll always get to learn like 6 things on what *not* to do in animation and drawing poses.”

“I’m crying why do he move like that,” says @CosmonautMarcus.

Thankfully, there are also a handful of defenders who don’t mind the animations in Mortal Kombat 1. As expected, it seems this topic isn’t going to hinder anyone’s enjoyment of this gory fighting game.

“I don’t care about the funny little animations,” says @LoveandPeaceOrb. “They don’t hinder my enjoyment of the game at all and if the gameplay mechanics are good, then I’m happy.”

“Now show them Kitana's animations and they would shut up about them being bad,” bluntly points out @themanonmain. “Johnny stiff as hell.”

While this reboot of the franchise might not have the smoothest-looking animations, all that matters is how it plays. Considering how crazy some of the combos in this game look, we’re sure hardcore fighting game fans will quickly forget about these animations. At the least, it won’t bother them since they’ll be having plenty of fun.

Even with its flaws and reliance on gore, there’s plenty to like about Mortal Kombat 1. There should be an excellent single-player story like in MK 11 and Injustice 2. We’re sure that the game will also have plenty of game mods to keep players entertained throughout.
