Monster Hunter Rise sells 4 million copies

Having only launched on Friday (26th), Monster Hunter Rise has sold over 4 million copies in a weekend.

In a press release sent out today, Capcom detailed the launch weekend for the latest entry in the series.

Capcom called the launch a ‘Solid start on a new platform for its flagship brand.’

Monster Hunter Rise was initially announced as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. In the months following the announcement, Capcom confirmed it would also launch on PC.

Monster Hunter

Rise is the latest entry in the Monster Hunter series. The series of games tasks players with hunting giant monsters across huge environments. Players can hunt alone or team up with others via online and local coop.

The series has grown in popularity since it launched in 2004. Monster Hunter World, which released before Rise, is Capcom’s most successful title to date, having sold over 16 million copies globally.

In a bid to capitalise on that growing popularity, Capcom partnered with Sony Pictures last year to produce a Monster Hunter film starring Milla Jovovich.

The film released to mixed reviews, and is currently available to buy and rent on a number of digital platforms in the UK, including Google Play Store and Amazon.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Rise is not the only Monster Hunter set to release this year, as Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is scheduled to release on July 9th on PC and Nintendo Switch.

The two games differ considerably. Wings of Ruin is set in the same universe as Monster Hunter, but it is a JRPG rather than an action game.

Wing of Ruin tasks players with taming monsters, rather than slaying them like in the mainline series. The Stories series of games sits somewhere between Monster Hunter and Pokemon.
