We got our first glimpse at the first Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection last night, but it still doesn’t have The Twin Snakes.

Fans have wondered why Konami have never bothered to re-release this GameCube exclusive and it looks like they’ll be wondering that for a while longer.

Announced during the recent PlayStation Showcase, the Master Collection ports over the PS1 original and the PS2 sequels. Rather than shake things up with a re-release of The Twin Snakes, we’re instead getting the PS3 HD collection again in multiple parts.

Don’t get us wrong, it’s great that fans will be able to play these classic Metal Gear Solid games again but no one has been able to play Twin Snakes since 2005. Sure, there are other less legal ways to play that game but having a definitive re-release would be nice.

Many fans figured that Twin Snakes has some complicated legal issues that prevent it from being re-released. After all, the game was developed by the defunct Silicon Knights and published by Nintendo, so Konami might want to avoid any legal headaches.

Fans do have mixed feelings about Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, as it ended up making the more grounded PS1 game a bit over-the-top. Snake tries to punch a Metal Gear at one point, so we can see why fans have mixed thoughts on it. Then again, MGS 2 has a vampire and MGS 4 turns Raiden into a cyborg ninja, so goofy things aren’t exactly new to this series.

With all that being said, now is a pretty good time to be a fan of Metal Gear Solid. The long-rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 remake has finally come to light, now being Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. And even without The Twin Snakes, it is good seeing the Master Collection announced, so more gamers can experience these espionage adventures.
