Konami’s still unannounced Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake project may not be a PlayStation exclusive after all with Xbox and PC versions in the works.
PlayStation and Konami have reportedly made deals on a number of upcoming video games including Silent Hill 2 Remake, Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake and an untitled Castlevania game.
However, new reports claim that the upcoming return to Snake Eater will have a multiplatform release, even if Xbox and PC versions arrive a little later than the PlayStation 5 game.
A report by InsiderGaming claims that Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is being developed with multiplatform releases in mind. In fact, the report states that the new game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
The new game is expected to release with heavy PlayStation marketing support. After Metal Gear Solid V released via a marketing deal with Xbox, PlayStation seems keen to keep its brand attached to the iconic spy series that gained popularity on the PS1.
Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is expected to be revealed at an upcoming PlayStation showcase. At the event, Sony will reveal any exclusive terms the game will have, such as PlayStation-only VR missions or DLC skins.
Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake releasing as a multiplatform game isn’t too surprising. The series has been releasing on Microsoft machines since the original 1987 game on the Microsoft and Mitsubishi home computer: MSX. Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 also received expanded editions on the original Xbox.
First released in November 2004, MGS 3: Snake Eater has released on a multitude of systems. Launching on the PS2, the game has been ported to Xbox, PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PlayStation Vita and even the 3DS.
The upcoming remake will hopefully take full advantage of Xbox Series and PS5 hardware to deliver the most advanced version of Snake Eater possible. However, there is a chance that the title could be one of the last cross-gen games to support PS4 and Xbox One hardware as well.
