According to a report from The Information, Meta has some impressive new VR devices lined up for release over the next few years. These include both a low-end and a high-end version of the Quest 4, as well as a successor to the Quest Pro.

In this guide, we'll reveal the release dates for Meta Quest 4, Quest 4S, and Quest Pro 2. However, these devices aren't launching soon. For the best VR headsets now, we recommend the Meta Quest 3, or the upcoming Quest 3 Lite and Pico 4S.

Speculated Release Dates

  • Meta Quest 4 and 4S: September 2026
  • Meta Quest Pro 2: September 2027

Meta Quest 4 and Quest 4S Release Dates

The low-end and high-end versions of the Quest 4, codenamed Pismo Low and Pismo High, are scheduled for release in 2026. Based on Meta's usual release pattern, we can anticipate their launch at Meta Connect in September 2026.

The naming convention leaves it unclear whether "Pismo High" refers to a premium version of the Quest 4, with "High" indicating a superior model, or if "High" denotes the standard version while "Low" represents the lite version, the Quest 4S.

The release of Meta Quest 4 and 4S in 2026 indicates that Meta will focus on enhancing the features and functionalities of the Meta Quest 3S in 2025, following its launch at Meta Connect 2024. They took the same approach for Quest 3 after its release.

Meta Quest Pro 2 Release Date

The Meta Quest Pro 2, the successor to the Quest Pro, is scheduled for release in 2027. Following Meta's usual release schedule, it should launch in September 2027. Codenamed La Jolla, this headset is designed to compete with the Apple Vision Pro.

Previously, there was confusion regarding the naming of the Quest Pro's successor. Some outlets reported it would be called the Quest 4 Pro, but it now appears it will be named the Quest Pro 2, which aligns with the correct naming convention.

A Korean news report indicates that Meta is partnering with LG to supply displays for the Meta Quest Pro 2. This means the Quest Pro 2 will feature micro-OLED displays, the same advanced technology used in the Apple Vision Pro.
