Marvel’s upcoming Secret Invasion film has announced two new directors in Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim.
The upcoming film is based on the 2008 comic of the same name and features a story focused on the long-term invasion of earth by aliens called the Skrulls.
Samuel L. Jackson will play Nick Fury as the lead in Disney’s adaptation of the classic comic.
Secret Invasion is not expected to release until late next year or at the beginning of 2023. Little is known about the series yet and how it could play into the current MCU phase.
Casting
Best known for his work on Big Eden, The Family Stone and Monte Carlo, Thomas Bezucha has experience across writing, directing and producing movies. Directing alongside him is Ali Selim, who worked on last year’s TV miniseries, The Looming Tower.
The likes of Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke and Kingsley Ben-Adir have all been cast for the show in recent months.
Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury in the show, while co-star Ben Mendelsohn will play the shape-shifting alien Talos.
Plot
Exclusively revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the hiring of two directors marks a big step forward for the show. Unfortunately, plot details about the show and how it will play into the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the original comic, alien race of shapeshifters called Skrulls who imitate superheroes invade Earth, creating dissent within the Avengers.
Fans believe Nick Fury is a Skrull in disguise thanks to a post credits scene at the end of Spider-Man Far From Home. His casting in the show does add some credence to his involvement with the Skrulls.
The introduction of the Skrulls to the Marvel Cinematic Universe creates an interesting dynamic. Many of the superheroes we’ve seen so far may not be who we think they are, and it could also lead to the Dark Reign storyline in years to come.
