If you've been enjoying Madden 22, you may have discovered the Madden 22 Franchise Desync Error interfering with your gaming experience. It does appear to be happening most frequently during online competitive games, leading to incomplete matches, and frustration all around.
This is an error that seems to have been carried over from Madden 21, meaning another year of irritation and thwarted dreams. It's a bit like being a fan of the New York Jets. Help is at hand though. Like a first round draft pick, we'll help make things better. Here's how you fix the Madden 22 Desync problem.
How to fix Madden 22 Franchise Desync Issue on Xbox
Given that this was an error first seen on Madden 21, there is already a well-established fix for this issue, that is effective in the vast majority of cases. The crucial element appears to be ensuring that you and the people you are playing with are all on the same NAT type. NAT stands for Network Address Translation. It is, essentially, what allows all the devices on your network to share an IP address. NAT is usually one of 3 settings: Type 1/Open; Type 2/Moderate; Type 3/Strict. These settings will decide how open your connection is to traffic on the network.
- To check your NAT type on Xbox:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.
- Under Current Network Status, the NAT Type field displays your current NAT type.
If you check you NAT type and identify that you need to change it, then there are some steps you can take to do this. Microsoft offer an extremely comprehensive guide on their Xbox Support page. This includes steps such as activating UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) port forwarding, and checking your router for firmware updates.

To check your NAT type on PlayStation:
- Go to Settings > Network > Connection Status.
- Select View Connection Status > NAT Type.
Some of the steps highlighted on the Microsoft Support page will also apply to a PlayStation (UPnP and checking your router). Sony don't offer the same information on their PlayStation Support page. So if you need to try port forwarding, there will be slightly different ports to open: TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, and 3658
Once you've updated your NAT type to match your opponent, the Desync issue will usually be resolved. But why exactly does it happen in the first place?

What causes the Madden 22 Desync Issue?
As we mentioned previously, the Desync issue has been around since Madden 21. Desync happens when what's taking place on the server is different to what your console is rendering. This disconnect then makes the game effectively impossible to play. Ultimately, this will then cause the Desync issue to arise.
Changing your NAT type ensure that everyone is getting the same information, and significantly reduces the prospect of the Desync issue arising. While changing your NAT type isn't the most straightforward fix (compared to say, resetting your console) it is worth trying, because in most cases it will fix the issue. You'll be throwing TD's - and maybe even leading the Jets to victory - in no time at all.
