Thousands of dwarves have ventured deep into the earth in Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, and those very same dwarves are wondering what's coming to the game in the months ahead. In this guide, we'll reveal the Lord of the Rings Return to Moria roadmap.
Set in the fourth age of J.R.R Tolkien's Middle-earth, the game has already impressed some players (and disappointed others) with its features, including base building, co-op multiplayer, and magical items inspired by the books. Like many survival games before it, Return to Moria looks to build upon its foundations in the months and years to come, and fans now have an idea of what to expect thanks to a roadmap.
Before we reveal and discuss the roadmap, check out our review of the game and find out if it features fan-favourite character Gimli. We can also teach you how to repair weapons.
Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria DLC roadmap
In a recent blog post, Return to Moria's developers, Free Range Games shared their plans for November and December 2023 as well as 2024 and beyond. These range from bug fixes to balance changes, so players are free to stick with the game as it aims to improve post-launch or return in a few months when things are more stable.
Patch 1, planned to launch on the week of November 1 2023, promises to "deliver fixes for over 100 bugs". Comprehensive patch notes will arrive later, but crashes will reportedly be reduced, and controller users should encounter fewer soft locks. Glitches that occurred with "crafting stations, meal tables, furnaces, enemy behaviour, opening and closing of chests, character lip-syncing, localization, and more" are explicitly mentioned as targets for fixes.
New content is always the main appeal, however, and Update 1 is planned for December 2023. It brings "much requested quality of life improvements" to the maligned inventory systems and a final boss fight. Enemy numbers are also being addressed, with spawn rates and combat rewards seeing changes alongside "over 200 bug fixes and polish items as part of this update."
As far as future plans go, 2024 and beyond are given some thought with promises to be as "transparent as possible about these [future] updates". The team expresses their excitement to be working with the community going forward, and we'll be sure to update you with the latest as we hear more.
