Lord of the Rings actor Billy Boyd promotes sketchy JRR Token cryptocurrency

The rise of cryptocurrency has quickly resulted in countless different forms of digital coins popping up online. There are sketchy cryptos promoted by Logan Paul, there's the infamous DogeCoin, there's even cryptos based on Pokemon. In crypto's latest move, a Lord of the Rings themed currency is going viral.

Lord of the Rings crypto coin

JRR Token is the name of the cryptocurrency in question. Obviously based on Lord of the Rings, the digital currency is prompted as “the one Token that rules them all”. The cryptocurrency is based on the Binance Smart Chain, a blockchain that claims every customer. Promotion of the coin claim that the crypto is fully “accessible and transparent”.

In a move to make the Lord of the Rings coin gain traction, the creators have gotten a huge promotional video starring Billy Boyd. In the Lord of the Rings movies, Boyd played the role of Peregrin "Pippin" Took, a perfect fit for a LOTR crypto! However, it's not clear if Boyd is actually aware of what he's promoting.

Billy Boyd promoted JRR Token

Those behind JRR Token managed to nab their Billy Boyd promotion via cameo. The cameo service allows anyone to pay celebrities to make short videos for them. Most celebrities refuse to allow customers to purchase cameos for brands or businesses. However, Boyd's cameo doesn't restrict this.

Nevertheless, in Boyd’s promotion of JRR Token, it does appear that he's simply reading from a script with little knowledge of the product. In the video, Boyd is obviously reading directly from a script as he talks of “Tokenomics” and the crypto’s longevity.

Tolkein vs Crypto

Of course, this brings to question whether or not Lord of the Rings writer JRR Tolkien would've supported crypto. As far as we can tell, absolutely not. Environmentalism and conservationism are key themes in Tolkien's works. You only have to look as far as The Shire or the Ents to notice that. The massive environmental impact of cryptocurrency goes entirely against that.

Fans of Tolkien’s work have already started to fire back against the cryptocurrency after Billy Boyd’s involvement. One Twitter user said: “The crypto is powered by the author spinning in his grave.” Another dropped this relevant Tolkien quote: “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”

Many are questioning the validity of the cryptocurrency as a whole. Furthermore, commenters think that investors are simply waiting for Lord of the Rings fans to jump in for them to “pump and dump”. Whatever the case, fans aren't happy.
