Last Train Home release date
Last Train Home has a confirmed release date, so we know exactly when the game will launch. Players will get access to Last Train Home on November 28, 2023. This means that it's not long before players will get a chance to experience Last Train Home for themselves.
Unfortunately for console players, Last Train Home is exclusively a PC release, with players able to buy the game from the Steam store or third-party retailers. However, developer Ashborne Games has left the door open on a future console port, only stating that "it is not planned at this moment" in an FAQ on their website.
Last Train Home trailer
In Last Train Home's gameplay trailer, we get an overview of what to expect from the game. Narration relays to the player their mission for the game: "to obtain safe passage home". In Last Train Home, you're sneaking through the Russian lines as they fight amongst each other, meaning your passage home will be anything but safe.
Also in this trailer, we get our first look at some of the gameplay mechanics of Last Train Home. One such example is the medical menu, where we see soldiers being assigned as doctors and patients. This suggests that medics or nurses will likely be one of the units in the game, as most soldiers won't be capable of treating severe wounds.

Last Train Home news
Last Train Home's gameplay and story seem to have taken inspiration from a variety of classic and modern strategy titles. Real-time strategy games set in the world wars are a common formula for success. Additionally, the game's narrative takes on a futile, hopeless setting throughout your campaign, which has proven to be a compelling narrative for similar titles such as Frostpunk.
Another game Last Train Home seemingly takes inspiration from is the XCOM series. In Last Train Home, each of the soldiers in your battalion can be individually levelled up to gain new skills. Each of them can have their own unique set of equipment as well, giving the player a huge degree of customisation.
However, one way in which Last Train Home will be hoping to stand out within the RTS genre is its unique spin on the classic real-time strategy formula. Unlike titles such as Company of Heroes or Starcraft, players can't construct buildings in Last Train Home.
The armoured train can be upgraded with resources collected during the campaign, but the traditional RTS gameplay loop is nowhere to be found. This may help the Last Train Home appeal to a wider audience, and entice new players to the RTS genre.
