What is a screenshot, and why should I care?

Very simply, a screenshot is when you take a picture of your phone's screen. You can then view, edit and share the image or video you have captured. On many devices, you'll even be able to immediately add text, stickers and filters to an image.

This has a wide range of applications, but as an example, you might capture what you're seeing to refer back to later, or to help explain something to someone else.

So how exactly can you take a screenshot? Thankfully, it's an incredibly easy process that we can guide you through right here.

How to take a screenshot

With Android devices, there are a few common approaches. On some devices, swiping down from the top of the screen will give you a screenshot capture shortcut nestled in your notification bar. For others, you'll have to use specific physical buttons on your device.

  • Firstly, you'll have to start by opening the screen you wish to capture.
  • Now, press the Power and Volume down buttons at the same time.
  • If this doesn't work with your handset, try pressing and holding the Power button for a few seconds, then tap 'Screenshot'.

If none of these three options work, then refer back to the support pages of your phone manufacturer for guidance.
