The key to any team-based game is communication. You need to be giving out information constantly, whether that's new items you can see, somewhere you want to move, or an enemy you need to let the others know about.
The easiest way to do this used to be voice chat.
However, gaming communities aren't always the nicest place to be, so a lot of people avoid voice chat. Thankfully, games have taken to using ping systems, which means you can communicate without ever saying a word.
So, here's how you can ping enemies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone.
How to ping enemies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone
To know how to ping an enemy, you first need to know how to use the ping at all. That's not very wise; it's just common sense.
So, the ping button, at least as per the default controller layouts, is Up on the d-pad on consoles, and left alt on PC. Of course, if you use a controller on PC, then it'll be Up on the d-pad there too.
The ping is context-sensitive, so if you're aiming at an enemy, then it'll ping the enemy. However, that's not always an easy thing to do.
If you double-tap the ping button, you'll pin the area you're looking at as dangerous, this'll let your teammates know where to look for new targets.

When to ping enemies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone
Pretty much whenever you see them. There's basically no such thing as too much information in a battle royale game, so pinging liberally, but also accurately, is essential.
So, if you see something suspicious, it's often better to ping it to let people know they may have to be wary than not.
It's far better to do this and risk being wrong than it is not to do it and get killed.
