The beta release for New World, the open-world MMO from Amazon, has run into a few connectivity issues. This is part of the reason for a beta period, to try to iron out these wrinkles before a full release. But it's still very annoying for players when they find themselves unable to play. While the game's development team are aware of the issue, they are still to deliver a definitive fix for it. Are you running into the New World Connection Error?
If so, there are a few troubleshooting suggestions which are worth trying, to see whether or not you can get back online during the beta test period. While these aren't a cast-iron guarantee of success, they may work, and it's got to be better than waiting indefinitely for a fix.
How to fix Connection with Server Error/New World Connection Error
Amazon themselves have stated that they are aware of server stability issues for users in the EU. This has been causing a number of dramatic issues, such as players falling through environments, or being kicked out of the game. They have also confirmed they are working on a fix. But in the meantime, here are some things you can try:
- Start by checking your internet connection. Test a different game, or a different device. Also try to make sure you don't have lots of different devices and apps jostling for bandwidth, as this can also have an impact.
- As stated above, certain regions have been identified as having server issues. So if you are getting a server related error, it's worth trying to connect using a VPN. This will allow you to access the game from another geographic location. This may circumvent a server problem.
- Amazon themselves recommend trying to access a lower population server. A VPN may also be useful if your region is particularly busy. Playing the game at off-peak times means less traffic on the server. So playing off peak, or using a server to connect to a part of the world where most people might be asleep, is also worth trying.
- Check you are using the correct client. This is especially true if you participated in any prior beta tests. You may be using an old client, which is hampering your connection to the game. So make sure you are accessing the game from the correct client, and see of this resolves the issue.
- A fairly common cause for issues with launching games is an overzealous Antivirus or firewall. So you can try turning off or temporarily disabling these, or make sure that New World is put on the trusted list, so that it isn't being blocked.
- If all else fails, there is always the classic, turn-it-off-and-on-again.

How to check server status
We've mentioned above that Amazon have acknowledged some server related issues with New World. So if you are experiencing problems with this server error, it's well worth checking on the server status of the game, in case that is the reason for your woes.
Happily, checking the server status is incredibly simple. Follow this link and it will take you to the New World server status page. You can then specify which region you want to check, and it will tell you at a glance whether there are any known server problems.
The closed beta launched on July 20th, and runs until August 2nd. So it's a relatively small window in which to play New World. Whether this particular server issue will be resolved in this period, we will have to wait and see.
