How to connect PS5 controller to your phone: Can it connect to iPhone or Android devices?

The PS5 is here, and with it comes the snazzy DualSense controller. For many gamers, connecting the PS5 controller to your trusty phone will also be on the cards.

After all, mobile gaming continues to be huge, and why wouldn't you want to use one of the best controllers in the world while you're playing on your mobile?

With that, here's what we found when pairing a DualSense to an iOS and Android device, and if it works...

Can a DualSense connect to iOS or Android?

When it comes to Android, it's a big yes.

From Fortnite to Sonic, your device will recognise that a controller is connected, and you can play away. There's even some additional beneftis, such as using the 'PS Button' to go back to the home screen when you wish.

With the iPhone, it's more of a work in progress situation. It's been confirmed that Apple is rolling out support for the new PS5 controllers very soon, with the function set to arrive in the iOS 14.5 update for iPhone and iPad.

The Verge reports that the 14.5 upgrade is currently available to beta testers, so, with any luck, it shouldn't be too long before it drops for the rest of us. There isn't a confirmed date for that yet, but we'll let you know when we found out.

How to Connect PS5 controller to iPhone iOS or Android phone

With Android, here's how to pair your new DualSense:

  1. Go to 'Connected Devices' in 'Settings' on your Android device
  2. Select 'Pair New Device'
  3. Hold down 'PS Button' and 'Create' on your DualSense.
  4. Your Android device will find the controller, and pair to it.

With the iPhone iOS, it's the same process as before:

  1. Go to 'Settings' and 'Bluetooth'.
  2. Hold down 'PS Button' and 'Create' on your DualSense.
  3. A 'Wireless Controller' will appear in the list.
  4. Select it, and it will then show as 'Paired'.

It's incredibly useful to use your controller for other devices, especially if you have an Android or iOS tablet. Playing Fortnite, Call of Duty or something else with the DualSense instead of using your fingers is so much better.

And once iOS 14.5 lands officially, the support for rumble and its lights is only going to be a matter of time.
