How To Connect Oculus Quest 2 to PS5 - can you do it?

While the Oculus Quest 2 is by far the market leader in the world of VR gaming headsets, one criticism might be that it lacks the capacity to play some the great games that you can get on consoles. So we've put together this guide on how to connect Oculus Quest 2 to PS5 so you know what you're doing.

If you're trying to find out how to connect your Oculus Quest 2 to PS5 console, then you're probably wanting to play the Sony exclusives that aren't officially available elsewhere.

Well, that's the question we'll be answering today. You may be pleasantly surprised by the answer, so don't dismiss things straight away before you read the below information.

Can You Connect Oculus Quest 2 to PS5?

If you were hoping that the Oculus Quest 2 would automatically connect to the PS5, and off you go... sorry. Prepare for disappointment. There is no official way of connecting the two devices. And realistically, we probably shouldn't expect anything else. After all, Sony has its own PSVR system, with a PSVR 2 system in the works as we speak.

It makes little sense then, for Sony to actively encourage a rival product for use on their system. They would inevitably prefer players to use their own PSVR system. Additionally, the Quest 2 is designed to be used with a PC rather than a console, so if you try to plug it in, not a lot is going to happen.

With all that being said though, there may still be a way for you to play PS5 games through your Quest 2 headset.

How to connect your PlayStation to your Quest 2

While a direct connection between your PS5 and the Quest 2 is about as likely as a Star Wars sequel that doesn't disappoint, there is some good news to be had. There are a couple of different ways you can utilise, to connect your Quest 2 headset and your PS5.

The simplest option is to install Virtual Desktop on your Quest 2, and PS Remote Play on your PC. You can then mirror your PC screen to your Quest 2, and experience your PS5 games on your VR headset. The caveat to this is that you are essentially creating a 2-stage process. By going from PS5 to PC, then PC to Quest 2, you run the risk of increased latency. This may not be a problem in all cases, but for fast-paced games, it could certainly be an issue.

Alternatively, you could consider installing something called SideQuest on your PC, then download PS Remote Play onto your Quest 2 via an APK. It's a slightly more fiddly process, and some users who have tried it found that it didn't work especially well.

Your final option is to try using a video capture card. This will forward the input from your PS5 to your Quest 2 headset. This approach will reduce latency compared with using Remote Play on your PC.

If you fancy trying any of these options, there are plenty of video guides out there to walk you through the process. It obviously isn't perfect, but it is functional. Or you can wait for the PSVR 2, which will be the best way to experience VR on the PS5. Although that may still be a year or more away.
