As one of the vanguard of social media giants, Snapchat has led the way in many of the creative innovations we see online. Filters, stickers, and other fun ideas have helped to turn this into a true behemoth, with hundreds of millions of users, and billions of "Snaps" sent each day. The chat function we'll be looking at today is the Snapchat Cameo Selfie. So if you want to know what it is, or if you need to know how to change yours to refresh your image, we'll give you all the information you need.
What is the Cameo Selfie?
In its simplest terms, a Cameo Selfie allows you to superimpose your face onto something else. You can insert your face into a gif, and Snapchat allows you to save them for later, should you wish. So the possibilities really are only limited by your imagination.
First introduced around 2019, the Cameo effect has quickly become a hugely popular feature on Snapchat. But even if it gets used a lot, people sometimes get a little bit stuck in figuring out how to change the image they've been using in their selfie. If you fall into that category, then read on. We'll explain exactly how you go about changing your cameo selfie, next.

How to change the Snapchat Cameo Selfie
The good news is that changing your Cameo Selfie on Snapchat is a pretty straightforward process:
If you want to change your Cameos selfie then Snapchat recommends the following:
- Open a Chat
- Select the face sticking its tongue out in the Chat bar
- Tap on a Cameos tile and press ‘… More’
- Tap ‘New Selfie’
You can also clear your current Cameos selfie. If you choose this, it will also delete related photo data for you and your friends. To do this:
- Tap the cog icon in My Profile to open Settings
- Select Clear My Cameos Selfie under ‘Account Actions’
- Tap ‘Clear’
In order to create a new Cameo, you will need to take a new selfie to go with it. It really is that simple. Now go forth, and start superimposing your face onto the world.
