Wondering how to breed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? We have got you covered!
Breeding is a bit different in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet than it was in the previous Pokémon titles, especially breeding Shiny Pokémon. With no Daycares or Nurseries in the game, many players seem to have no idea how to breed and hatch Pokémon.
So in this article, we will explain how to breed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Let's get started!
How to breed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
In order to breed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you must have two Pokémon (one male, one female) from the same Egg Group or a Ditto in your party.
The Transform Pokémon, Ditto, makes breeding Pokémon easier in Scarlet and Violet as it can take on the form of any Pokémon and therefore can breed with any Pokémon, regardless of egg type or gender, except those in the No Egg Discovered egg type.
In case you have a foreign Pokémon, you can use the following method to get Shiny Pokémon. Also, it is worth mentioning that you can breed Paradox Pokémon.
So with that in mind, let's see how to breed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Set up a picnic
First, you need to set up a picnic on a flat surface anywhere in the wild and just have the two Pokémon in your party that you want to breed. In case you have a Ditto in your party, it is going to breed with all the other Pokémon in your party individually.
Once the picnic is set, just wait; Eggs will stack up in the basket over time. It is worth mentioning that 10 is the max amount of eggs that can be stacked at a time. And it might take an uncomfortable amount of time for eggs to pop up in the basket - normally.
However, you can speed up the breeding process by preparing sandwiches (if you have all the ingredients) or purchasing them from food shops across Paldea. These sandwiches offer a temporary boost called Meal Power which will boost your Egg Power, Catching Power, Raid Power and more.
If you prepare or purchase a sandwich with Egg Power LVL 1, it will take about 10 - 15 minutes to get 10 eggs. The higher the Egg Power, the lower the amount of time to fill the basket to its maximum capacity.
Hatch eggs by travelling with the eggs in your party
Once you have collected all the 10 eggs, you'll want to hatch them. Just as before, hatching an egg in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is based on the distance travelled. So move around on your Koraidon or Miraidon with eggs in your party.
Keep running, gliding, or swimming until the game interrupts you to tell you an egg is hatching. When your egg is ready to hatch, you'll get a little animation revealing what Pokémon you've bred.
Certain Pokemon have abilities that greatly lessen the distance needed to be covered to hatch the eggs. Add a Pokémon that has either Flame Body, Magma Armor, or Steam Engine to your party along with the eggs to speed up hatching.
How long does it take to get an egg in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Without Egg Power, it will take around 30 minutes to fill the basket. But with Egg Power Level 1, you will get 10 eggs in about 10-15 minutes.
With Egg Power Level 2 in effect, you should be able to get a Pokémon egg to spawn every 30 seconds, on average. And with Egg Power Level 3, you should be done under 3 minutes.
That's how to breed in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Easy, right? Before you leave, be sure to look at how to fix the corrupted save issue and the connection failed error in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
