Hogwarts Legacy is a bestseller again after Xbox One and PS4 release

Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts Legacy has sprung back into the bestsellers list for video games following its new last-gen release.

Outselling games such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the new Xbox One and PS4 release of Hogwarts Legacy has already leaped its way up into the top of sales charts.

When the Harry Potter game originally launched on Xbox Series, PS5 and PC, the game managed to break all expectations by publisher Warner Bros. As a much-hyped release, the game managed to sell next-gen consoles to fans of the franchise.

As expected, the Potter hype has only continued on last-gen machines. According to GamesIndustry, Hogwarts Legacy’s last-gen port is currently the best-selling physical release across all consoles.

Coming in at first places the Potter video game beats Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Dead Island 2, FIFA 23 and even the all-new Minecraft spin-off Minecraft Legends.

This isn’t even the last release of Hogwarts Legacy to come. In the coming months, one final port is planned for the massive RPG: a Nintendo Switch conversion of the Harry Potter adventure.

According to players of the last-gen version, the new Xbox One and PS4 ports of the game run remarkably well. Unfortunately, we have yet to see any footage of the Nintendo Switch conversion at the time of writing.

Despite the massive controversy surrounding the transphobic statements of Potter author J.K Rowling, the writer’s vile comments did not affect the gigantic sales of the new video game.

Hogwarts Legacy fans have also created an intense modding scene for the video game. Alongside hilarious model swaps, such as turning the broomsticks into Shrek, modders are also creating a full multiplayer mode for the Wizarding World RPG.

Warner Bros Games have not revealed any plans for DLC or sequels to the new Harry Potter game. However, considering the game’s runaway success, we should expect a number of follow-up games in the coming years.

While not a sequel to the popular RPG, Warner Bros does have another Potter video game in production. A free-to-play multiplayer game, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will allow fans to face off in next-gen Wizarding sports with their friends.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Nintendo Switch port releases on July 25th, 2023.
