Hogwarts Legacy is one of 2023’s biggest hits, selling a ton of copies and making many fanfictions come true. Unsurprisingly, it seems that Warner Bros. is already working on a Hogwarts Legacy 2 now that Pottermania is back.
A job listing from Warner Bros. Discovery reveals that they’re looking for Junior Software Engineer to work with Avalance Software. That company developed Legacy, which has many thinking they’re already working on a sequel to the hit RPG.
While the company could be working on a completely different game, this quote from the listing hints at a sequel: “Join the team behind the blockbuster open world, action RPG Hogwarts Legacy as we create what’s next!”
Seeing Avalanche Software work on Hogwarts Legacy 2 wouldn’t be surprising at all, given how well the first game did. Considering how there seem to be no plans for the RPG to have DLC, a sequel re-using assets and having new mechanics makes sense.
Pottermania has been running wild lately and Warner Bros. wants to capitalize on that. Legacy broke numerous records upon release, dominating sales on current-gen and last-gen systems. A Switch version is also coming this year, likely increasing the game’s success threefold.
Beyond news of a sequel, reports on an all-new LEGO Harry Potter have also surfaced. This version will be similar to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, with more refined mechanics and letting players go through all seven books. TT Games reportedly canceled other projects with Marvel characters to work on this title.
It will be interesting to see what the reaction to Hogwarts Legacy 2 is since J.K. Rowling will still benefit from that project. Due to her anti-trans politics, the pre-release of Legacy had developers and actors distancing themselves from the disgraced author. Fans even started spoiling events from the game to defy Rowling.
