Ghost of Tsushima PS4 vs PS5: Should you get Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 or wait for the PS5 version?

Ghost of Tsushima is the upcoming adventure game that casts you as a samurai in the late 13th century who has to fight off an invasion on Tsushima Island.

Your aim is to help ensure the freedom of the island through any means, and that means sometimes you'll have to disregard that which you hold dear to get the job done.

[sc name="ps5" ]

It's a massive open-world game that is sure to eat up as much of your life as you'll let it, and that's great and all, but where should you play it?

Given that it's going to be such a time investment, should you play Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 or PS5? Should you order the PS4 version now or wait for the next-gen upgrade?

Will Ghost of Tsushima come to PS5?

As it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is due to launch on PS4 on June 26th 2020. You can already order the game on sites like Amazon, if you're still into physical copies of things!

There is no PS5 release date as of yet, which means that it isn't officially coming to the next-gen console. Well, not as it stands, anyway.

It's easy to understand this strategy: it would be very strange for Sony to eat its own sales by announcing a better version of the game before the first one is even out. With that in mind, it's likely that even if it does come to PS5, we won't know about it for a while.

A little ways down the road, though, it seems plausible to predict that playing Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 will be made possible by backwards compatibility.

PlayStation's CEO, Jim Ryan confirmed that The Last of Us Part II "will run on the PS5 without issue". This comes after Sony announced that from July 13th onwards, any game in development for the PlayStation 4 for must be "forward compatible" with the next-gen console.

It'll likely be prettier and possibly run better on PS5 too, but you might have to wait a while for that next-gen release.

Should I play Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 or PS5?

So then, the question is whether or not you buy it on PS4 to play it on PS4, buy a PS4 copy in a few months when the PS5 comes out, or buy a PS5 version if one gets released.

Well, it's probably worth just getting it on PS4 and playing it there. Unless you're keen to see every single polygon squeezed to perfection then the differences shouldn't be all that significant.

Of course, wait until the reviews come out to actually commit to it just in case something is awry with it when it releases.
