While this year's huge gaming events such as E3, Paris Game Week and TwitchCon were all understandably cancelled, Gamescom is still planning to go ahead as a digital-only event.
This will certainly be different from Gamescom's standard setup in the German city of Cologne, but we still expect that the online event will give us news and information about all the latest games and next-gen consoles slated for release in the Holiday period.

What games will be shown?
Gamescom is the final gaming event before the Holiday season starts, and so it's the last opportunity for developers to show off footage from their game to a larger audience.
Aside from the games already revealed to be shown off during the Opening Night Live show, we expect to find out more about: Watch Dogs Legion, Cyberpunk 2077, Gods and Monsters, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and Far Cry 6.
We can expect many if not all the annually released games to make an appearance at the show, including FIFA 21, Madden 21,andNBA 2K21, having already seen footage of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War during the Opening Night Live.

Nintendo, who has previously attended every Gamescom event since 2013, is among the publishers not partnered with Gamescom 2020. Having previously given fans and journalists a look at their flagship Holiday games such as Pokémon Sword and Shield, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Super Mario Odyssey, their absence will only increase concerns from Nintendo fans over the lack of titles currently slated for release. It may, however, suggest the company is planning to hold their own Nintendo Direct around the same time.
Sony is also absent from the list of Gamescom partners. After attending the majority of Gamescom events to show off the likes of Death Stranding, Spider-Man PS4, and Horizon Zero Dawn, their absence going into the next-gen of consoles may shock fans of the PlayStation.
However, it may be that Sony is further distancing itself from official gaming events and is instead planning on releasing its own State of Play around a similar time, as they now do with E3.
The absence of Sony from Gamescom gives Microsoft the chance to really push the Xbox Series X's exclusive games.
