Samsung's most recent earbuds were released in August 2021, so it's probably about time that we start thinking about the Galaxy Buds 3, which we would anticipate being the next iteration in the Buds series. Given the positive reception for the Buds 2, we certainly have high hopes for the Buds 3.
We've rounded up all the rumours, hearsay, leaks, and whispered conversations that we've overheard in bars, to bring you everything we know about the Buds 3. If you're ready to get started, then so are we.
Galaxy Buds 3: Release Date Prediction
If we look back to previous releases, there is a little bit of a pattern. The Buds 2 released in August 2021, while the Galaxy Buds Live came out in August 2020. Both were announced during a summer Galaxy Unpacked event.
This strongly suggests that if we are going to see the Buds 3 in 2022, then the next Unpacked event in August would be the most likely candidate for that reveal to take place. It would be consistent with the annual release pattern that we've seen in the last two years. It would also coincide with the expected announcements of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, both of which we suspect will arrive at that Unpacked event.

Interestingly, there is a possibility that we won't see Buds 3 at all. But instead, we may see a replacement for the Buds Live, and possibly a successor to the Buds Pro. According to a report in The Elec (via Screenrant) a business plan for 2022 mentions these two models being replaced. But no mention is made of a Buds 2 replacement.

Galaxy Buds 3: Specs
The rumour mill has been decidedly quiet on this. And the conversations we've overheard in bars have tended to focus more on awkward situations between two people called Gary and Chantelle. But we won't dwell on that.
The best information we have comes courtesy of Lets Go Digital, who spotted a patent application for new buds. These include biometric sensors for heart-rate monitoring, and an SpO2 sensor. SpO2 stands for saturation-of-percutaneous Oxygen. Essentially, it measures how much oxygen is in your bloodstream.

If true, this would be extremely interesting. These are both features common in fitness trackers and smartwatches. This might suggest that Samsung are adding a feature that might appeal to fitness enthusiasts. A way of tracking heart rate and oxygen levels while out running, but negating the need for a watch, perhaps?
Other rumours have suggested a possible wireless charging case, and extended battery capacity. Although this may be for a sequel to the Buds Pro, rather than a Buds 3. These are also rumoured to be coming in 2022.
Galaxy Buds 3: Price Predictions
Once again, Samsung has said little to confirm that Buds 3 are inbound. And so we are left to look to the past once again, to give us a steer on the future. The original Galaxy Buds and Buds 2 launched at $129/Ā£139 and $149/Ā£139 respectively.
The Buds Pro meanwhile, cost $199/Ā£219. So depending on what model actually gets replaced, we'd expect these to be the benchmark figures for Samsung to follow. Prices are, at best, likely to remain flat. But don't be surprised if newer earbuds come at a slightly higher price.
As always, we'll continue to keep our ears to the ground and update you with more when we get it.
