Despite being a VR-first experience, Rec Room is now available on a variety of platforms. Although it started as a virtual reality game, Rec Room is playable on consoles, mobile devices, and standalone headsets. Surprisingly, despite its VR debut, the game is coming to Nintendo Switch before PSVR 2.
If you own any of the best VR headsets, chances are you've seen Rec Room pop up on a storefront. You may have even played it and consider it one of the best PCVR games and best Meta Quest 3 games. It’s accessible on most platforms and offers crossplay so you can play with your friends no matter what device you're using.
Much like VRChat, Rec Room's popularity began with virtual reality but has since expanded beyond it. Now, Rec Room is coming to Nintendo Switch, as confirmed by the official Rec Room Twitter account.
"Rec Room is coming to Nintendo Switch! While we’re not ready to launch yet, we couldn’t wait to spread the exciting news!" the announcement reads. However, those following Rec Room on VR should note that the developers confirmed Rec Room isn't coming to PSVR 2, despite its virtual reality origins.
Given that Sony is cutting PSVR 2 production and potentially stopping funding for first-party exclusives, it's not surprising that many VR developers aren't investing in PSVR 2. However, despite Sony's lack of support to its own device, the Nintendo Switch is an aging device, and considering the fact that many are excited for the Nintendo Switch 2, this move might feel like a letdown for PSVR 2 owners.
That said, if you own a PSVR 2 and a VR-ready PC, you won't have to wait long to enjoy Rec Room in VR. The upcoming PC adapter for PSVR 2 will provide the long-anticipated PC support for the headset, even if some of PSVR 2's best features aren't available in PC mode. At the very least, you'll be able to play Rec Room thanks to PCVR, but it's unfortunate there's no native PlayStation VR version of the game.
