Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade: How To Fix FF7 Remake Intergrade Crashing on PC

Nearly two years after Final Fantasy 7 made its debut, and months after the intergrade version made its way to the PlayStation 5, the Remake has finally stumbled its way onto PC. And we use the word stumble deliberately, as since its release, the reception has been...mixed, to say the least. It's a game that has been beset with problems, one of which isFF7 Remake Intergrade crashing on a regular basis. While we can be forgiving of the occasional glitch or stutter, major crashes render a game all but unplayable. Which, for such a great game, is something of a travesty.

We'll take a look today at whether or not there is anything you can do to reduce the chances of a crash, and explain a little bit more about what the underlying issues might be. Let's crack on without further ado.

How To Fix FF7 Remake Intergrade Crashing on PC

There are a few things you can do in an effort to troubleshoot your way out of this predicament. We'll run through those now.Start by making sure your PC meets the minimum specifications for the game. If your computer doesn't meet the bare minimum requirements, then you are likely to suffer from serious performance problems, that no amount of troubleshooting will fix. These are as follows:

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit (ver. 2004 or later)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 3330 / AMD FX-8350
  • Memory: 8 GB
  • Storage: 100 GB or more
  • Direct X: Version 12 or later
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 780 / Radeon RX 480 (3GB VRAM)
  • Resolution: 1920x1080

It's even better if your system meets the recommended specs for the game, which are:

  • OS: Windows 10 64bit (ver. 2004 or later)
  • Processor: IntelCore i7-3770 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100
  • Memory: 12GB

Check For Updates

Assuming your equipment meets or exceeds the minimum requirements, it's important to check whether you have any outstanding updates. Check for updates to the game, which are often designed to fix major issues. Check for any windows updates, and check for any updates for your graphics drivers. If you have an AMD graphics card, check here. For Intel, go here and for GeForce, go here.

Other Steps To Try

As well as trying the points we've already raised, there are some more steps worth taking, if you are suffering from crashes on FF7 Remake Intergrade:

  • One suggestion that seems to have been effective for players is to use DirectX11 instead of DirectX12.
    • Open Epic Game Launcher and go to Settings.
    • Select FF7 Remake Intergrade and tick Additional Command Line Arguments.
    • In the newly opened screen, type -dx11. Save the changes and close the window.
  • Conversely, for some players, updating DirectX to the latest version is the way to go.
  • Running the game as an administrator can fix issues in many games, so it's well worth trying in this instance.
    • FF7 Remake.exe file and choose Properties from the sub-menu.
    • Inside the FF7 Remake.exe window, from the top menu, choose the Compatability tab.
    • On the next menu, tick the box next to Run this program as an administrator under the Settings section and click OK.
  • Verify the integrity of the game files. Completing this process will ensure that any game files that have become corrupted are identified and fixed.
    • From the Epic Games library, select the FF7 Remake game and click the three dots.
    • In the sub-menu that appears, click Verify.
    • Wait for the process to complete, then relaunch the game.

Even More Possible Solutions

We're not done yet. If you are still suffering, try these steps:

  • Give your game High Priority in task manager. This means your PC will allocate a greater proportion of its resources to running the game.
    • Right-click on the Start Menu > Task Manager.
    • Click on the Processes tab > Right-click on FF7 Remake Intergrade.
    • Select Set Priority to High.
  • If you have an antivirus or firewall set up on your device, make sure that FF7 Remake is added to the white list, so that they do not inadvertantly block the game. Alternatively, you can try disabling them before launching the game, to see if this makes a difference.
  • Close down as many background tasks as you can, to minimise the amount of multitasking your PC is doing.
  • Try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime. To do this:
    • Visit the Microsoft Visual C++ page and download the file.
    • Once the download is complete, open the file and follow the instrcutions to install the software.
  • If all else fails, then uninstalling and reinstalling the game can sometimes fix underlying issues. This is the last roll of the dice, and there is no guarantee it will work for you.

Why Is FF7 Remake Intergrade Crashing?

Startup crashes are by no means exclusive to this game, and PC users are pretty familiar with this issue in general. But the frequency of the issue on FF7 is significant. The underlying issue is yet to be officially determined. But it is most likely to be an issue with compatibility between the game and the PC. Whether that's the hardware or some software, chances are that there is something the game doesn't like.
