The anticipation building surrounding the Fitbit Versa 4 has reached its apex, with the device officially launched and available on the Fitbit website. The latest in the mid-range Versa line of Fitbit products has certainly arrived in style.

We've put together the key details you need to know about the Fitbit Versa 4, so you can be prepared for its many new features.

Fitbit Versa 4: Release Date

Our prediction that the Versa 4 would be released in September has proven true; Fitbit's new range of products have officially been released.

Orders can now be placed for both the Versa 4 and Sense 2. They were shipped on 23rd September in the US, and have been available since the 29th September for those in the UK.

The Inspire 3 came out slightly earlier, landing on the 15th of September for both US and the UK.

Price

The pricing of the previous model seems to have been a perfect guideline, with the Versa 4 launching at $229.95, exactly the same price as the Fitbit Versa 3 on release.

Specs and Features

There was much speculation about whether Fitbit would drop their proprietary OS in favour of Wear OS, but it's now been confirmed that Fitbit OS is continuing as the standard OS for the new autumn line of Fitbit products.

However, according to a recent report from 9to5Google, Fitbit debuted a new UI for both Versa 4 and Sense 2 that's practically identical to Wear OS 3, meaning you might still end up with many of the benefits that come with the Wear OS 3 anyway.

Though if you were really hoping for an original Wear OS Fitbit, the brand has announced that they are working on the Google Pixel watch, and will be supplying the Health focused aspects of the watch, whilst google will be providing the rest. It's worth noting that these watches will only be compatible with Android 8 or newer.

Fitbit has now also announced a line of "made for Fitbit" accessories for each of the 3 new devices, including some snazzy straps that have vegan leather options, so everyone can get involved.

Many of the complaints about Fitbit OS are going to be quashed by some of the additions to the Autumn line, like the release of Google Wallet and Google maps for the smartwatches.

According to 9to5Google, though, you'll still have to rely on your smartphone to access Google Maps on the watch, as your phone will communicate with it via Bluetooth to relay instruction from Maps.

Leaked images of the Versa 4 (also courtesy of 9To5Google) that suggested the much-maligned capacitative button would be replaced by a physical button, have proven true, making for a much more user-friendly experience.

Unfortunately, these leaked images were also correct about the Versa 4 not inheriting the Sense's ECG, but it will be able to measure skin temperature variation. The Sense 2 however, will retain its ECG capabilities.

Battery life for the Versa 4 has stayed the same, granting 6 days of usage, though this can be affected by how the watch is used e.g. keeping GPS data on permanently.

There seems to be no information on the Versa 4's screen size or type, but the Versa 3 has a 336x336 AMOLED screen, so we wouldn't be surprised if there were any upgrades in this department.

There are currently 4 choices for the colour scheme of the Versa 4: Black, Waterfall Blue, Pink Sand and Beet Juice.

But enough about colours, you want to know the new features that the Versa 4 has, don't you? There's too much to go over in just one article, so we'll highlight our favourites.

To start off with, Fitbit has doubled the number of exercise modes from 20 to a huge 40, so you'll be able to accurately track more of your favourite sports.

Fitbit premium users will also be able to use their sleep profile system to have their sleeping patterns analysed and matched with different animals.

There will also be blood glucose tracking for unsubscribed Fitbit users, with advanced analysis available for premium subscribers.

It seems that Google isn't the only company that's been working with Fitbit to add new tech; Alexa is now built-in to the watch, so you can have assistance from Amazon's proprietary helper, right on your wrist.

As for wireless connectivity, the Versa 4 has upgraded to Bluetooth 5.0, so you can ensure a strong connection.

However, a recent report from 9to5Google said that Wi-Fi has been disabled on the watch, as when you look under the 'Sensors and Components' section of the specs page, it comes up saying "deactivated, cannot be turned on."

A post-release addition has seen mobile payments become available on the Versa 4 and Sense 2, as they now support Google Wallet...a first in the world of Fitbit watches.

And a new update means you can make on-wrist calls from your watch, alongside the introduction of a screen cover gesture.

So what do you think, will you be pre-ordering the Versa 4?
